US-Iran Tensions
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the war between the United States and Iran would end “immediately” after the November 3 midterm elections. However, he ruled out an early resumption of nuclear negotiations with Tehran.
US Treasury Yields
US stocks closed lower on Wednesday as US Treasury yields rose. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield reached its highest level since 2023 following the announcement of a higher Treasury buyback of longer-dated bonds.
Crude Oil & Global Risk
Asian markets remained under pressure as surging crude oil prices intensified inflation concerns and pushed Treasury yields higher.
Brent crude held near $101 per barrel as Iran said it was prepared for a more intense conflict following renewed hostilities in the Middle East. This has raised concerns over potential disruptions to oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
Market Outlook
Rising crude oil prices, elevated Treasury yields and heightened geopolitical tensions are likely to keep global equity markets under pressure in the near term.
