Indian Rupee Update
Advisory Bazaar Info Services
The Indian Rupee climbed to its strongest level in nearly three weeks but may face fresh pressure following the US Federal Reserve’s policy decision, which pushed US Treasury yields higher.
Supported by intervention from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the rupee appreciated 0.2% to 95.6475 before opening slightly weaker in today’s trade.
The RBI has been actively selling US dollars in recent sessions to curb excessive volatility in the currency market. However, the frequency of its interventions has eased compared to earlier periods, suggesting relatively improved market stability.
Meanwhile, the 30-year US Treasury yield has surged close to its highest level in nearly two decades. After the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged, markets are closely evaluating its commitment to containing inflation.
Market analysts believe the Fed may need to deliver clearer policy guidance and stronger measures to reinforce investor confidence in its inflation-control strategy.
On the geopolitical front, uncertainty in crude oil prices has increased following recent US military action involving Iran. Brent crude initially surged nearly 8% before retreating, highlighting continued volatility in global energy markets.
Market Outlook:
The Indian Rupee is expected to remain influenced by RBI intervention, US bond yields, Federal Reserve policy signals, and fluctuations in global crude oil prices. Continued volatility in these factors could keep the currency trading within a cautious range in the near term.
